Divide By None (DBN) is an Australian tech company with offices primarily in Sydney and Melbourne.
Our companies at DBN develop unique, state of the art technologies that are set to re-invent the field of Computer Science and in particular, the subdomain of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Though we will create AI products for many industries, eventually, our primary focus is on developing state of the art tools that foster collaboration between the humans who create software, video games, television, film, literature, streaming (of both live and pre-recorded content), and music. We are actively opposed to the threat of AI that destroys more jobs than it creates in any industry (with the exception of highly problematic situations such as where essential goods/services are often unaffordable and/or of a poor quality for a substantial proportion of people).
We do also operate more broadly within the field of science, but we do so mainly from an artistic perspective. We do not strictly follow the scientific method and we are not interested in forming relationships with scientific institutions. We are creative people, not methodological people. Therefore, it is most appropriate to consider us as engineers, rather than scientists.
Therefore, if you ever find yourself wondering: “Why is DBN doing that in this way?”, then you can usually be confident that the answer is: “Because it’s a tactic as part of a bigger war that we are fighting to sabotage the AGI dystopia before it emerges, and to establish the infrastructure that allows us to become a more cooperative society.”
The company name is a reference to the eagerness to accomplish things that most computer scientists believe to be impossible, which we metaphorically compare to the hypothetical act of “dividing by zero”. There was initially a desire to call the company "Divide By Zero", but the domain name "www.dividebyzero.com" was not available at the time, so the word "zero", was replaced with the word "none".
Our secret-sauce is an open secret that is similar to the wisdom you can find repeated in various forms within many classic books written throughout history: the pen is mightier than the sword. That is, we don’t fight our battles by accumulating excessive investment, or by outspending on ads or lobbying, or by building the biggest infrastructure. We win by having superior ideas and putting those ideas into action with superior implementation.
